Abstract: Atlanta, 1944 Martin, figlio di un pastore della chiesa battista, cresce nel sogno di un mondo di fratellanza e inclusione dove ogni ragazzo e ogni uomo sia giudicato per le qualità e il cuore, e non per il colore della pelle. Ogni giorno, invece, aumenta la consapevolezza che la sua gente è vittima di una profonda ingiustizia, costretta a continue umiliazioni e limitazioni alle libertà civili. E allora comincia a combattere. Combatte per la sua personale emancipazione, per aiutare un suo coetaneo ingiustamente accusato di furto, per avere una vita più degna, non solo per sé, ma anche per gli altri, perché non si può essere liberi da soli.
